Almanack report :Tendulkar played a blazing innings of 82 from 49 balls, with 15 fours and two sixes, and India achieved a thumping victory in less than half their allocated 50 overs. Opening because of Sidhu's neck strain, Tendulkar put on 61 with Jadeja in nine overs, and 56 in six with Kambli. He smashed three fours and a six off Larsen's first over and Kambli was just as hard on Morrison.

Rutherford had chosen to bat but, on the same pitch on which Pakistan had won the First Test inside three days, half the side went for 34. Parore and Harris staged a minor recovery, with 52 for the sixth wicket, but off-spinner Chauhan destroyed the tail. As New Zealand limped to 142, Harris reached an unbeaten 50.

Man of the Match : S. R. Tendulkar.
