Almanack report: Toss: India.
Tendulkar's maiden century in 78 one-day internationals was fashioned from a blazing assault in the first hour. He raced to 50 in 43 balls, knocking first the pace bowlers and then Warne - with two sixes in an over - out of the attack. His 110 from 132 balls should have been the platform for a huge total; India reached 100 in the 18th over. It never quite materialised after he played over a yorker from McDermott, but India won calmly, with Prabhakar challenging Tendulkar for the match award. He took a return catch off Taylor, two further wickets, another catch and two run-outs. Australia's only substantial partnership was 67 from Mark Waugh and Boon.

Match notes: This was 3rd match of the Singer World series. As India already lost to Sri Lanka in the opening game and Australia defeated Pakistan so it was extremely necessary for India to win this match. As usual Sachin rose to the occasion and he went on to score his first century in ODI. Finally India won the match. As it happened it was only victory for India in the series and India reached to the final and defeated Sri Lanka to clinch the Singer World Series.

Eye Witness Account: I started watching cricket in the same year (1994). As my father himself is Sachin's big fan so that made me to watch Sachin's batting always and I turned to be his big fan too in due course of time. I saw this match live but was too young to understand his shots. If I'm correct the match was telecast on DD-1 and we used to have interruption due to DD-news and the telecast was used to shift on DD-2. But we had only DD-1 coming to our TV.
